Starsill identifies it and keeps it where you can find it. A book in your hands, on a shelf, or in a screenshot of a post. No account.
When one catches your attention, take a photo. Starsill does the rest.

Use the camera, or choose a photo or screenshot from your library. A screenshot works when the post shows the cover.

It finds the title, author and cover. If more than one match comes back, you choose.

Saved with its name and cover, so you can search for it by title or author.
A screenshot in your camera roll has no name. A book in Starsill does, so you can find it again.
If Starsill can't identify a book, the photo waits in your Inbox. Try again later or search for it yourself. Failed attempts don't count toward your free saves.
Covers, titles and authors, ready to search. From any book, you can open it in Goodreads or Amazon. If you turn on location, each book also keeps the place where you saved it.
Saving a book doesn't mean you owe it anything. Come back whenever you like. No streaks, goals or reminders.

Your photo
What travels: a copy of the whole photo or screenshot. Location data inside the file is removed, and the place you saved in the app isn't sent.
Your library stays on your iPhone.
Identifying a book from a photo uses Image Recognition, and it stays off until you allow it. When it's on, Starsill sends a copy of the whole photo or screenshot through its gateway and OpenRouter to third-party AI providers, so check what's in the frame. Location data inside the file is removed, and the place you saved in the app isn't sent. If you'd rather not send a photo, search by title, author or ISBN; your search terms still go to book catalogs. Your library stays on your iPhone.
Pricing
Ten AI-identified saves a month, free.
A save counts only when you keep a book Starsill identified for you. Failed attempts don't count, and neither do books you find by searching yourself.
Want more? Unlimited saves come with a monthly or yearly subscription. Either way, your library, Inbox, search and export stay open. You can cancel anytime from your Apple account. The App Store shows the price for your country.
From the maker
I'm Benjamín Real, and I make Starsill on my own. Books reach me all the time: in posts, in conversations, on bookstore tables. I wanted one quiet place to keep the ones that caught my attention, so I built it, and I use it myself. If something doesn't work or you have a question, write to me at support@starsill.app. I answer messages myself.Benjamín Real · Maker of Starsill
Yes, when the post shows the book's cover. Pick the screenshot from your photos and Starsill identifies the book. If a post only names the book in text, search for it by title instead.
It works from a photo of the cover. Matches come from book catalogs, so if several come back, you choose the one you mean. If Starsill can't identify a book, the photo waits in your Inbox for another try or a manual search, and the attempt doesn't count.
Not always. Starsill identifies the book, then shows matches from book catalogs with each one's cover, publisher and year, so you can choose the one closest to yours or check its details first. If the ISBN shows in your photo, Starsill looks for that ISBN first. If none of the matches is right, tap “It's none of these” and add what you know, such as the ISBN, publisher or edition, to search again.
No. There's no account, no sign-up and no email address.
Your library, Inbox, search and export stay open. New captures wait until your free saves refresh next month, or you can go unlimited with a subscription.
On your iPhone. It's included in your device or iCloud backups. You can also export it from Settings as a standard JSON file and import it into Starsill on another iPhone. Exports include book details and any saved location, not your photos. There's no sync between devices.
No. It's for the books that catch your attention, not a record of what you've read.
Yes. Each book's page has Goodreads and Amazon buttons. Starsill opens a search for that book on the site: by ISBN when it has one, otherwise by title and author. It doesn't sign in for you or add the book to your shelves.
Only if you choose. They're off until you decide in the app, and you can change your choice in Settings. Starsill's own events don't include book titles, authors, ISBNs, recognized text, photos or saved locations. TelemetryDeck, the analytics service, also receives a per-install identifier and standard device information.
